Rosario Central's president, Gonzalo Belloso, has announced the departure of coach Jorge Almirón. The club is looking for a new coach for the 2023 season. Almirón started his cycle as coach of the professional team at the end of 2025, replacing Ariel Holan, who left despite his good numbers - Central was the best team of the season and that's why they gave him that title that generated so much controversy. Holan was condemned - according to Belloso's opinion - for the eliminations in the playoffs, against Huracán in the Apertura and against Estudiantes in the Clausura. Almirón had the task of leading the team led by Ángel Di María in the Copa Libertadores, a tournament in which he was a finalist with Lanús and with Boca. He didn't do badly in a group with no great demands, as he managed to qualify with some comfort. However, the end of the semester of his Central was very worrying. Although the DT never entered the taste of the fans, the good results kept him. But the beginning of the debacle of Almirón's cycle was the semifinal lost against River in the Monumental, where they fell to the coach for his conservative and stingy approach. Then he went to Ecuador to close his participation in Group H of the Copa Libertadores, with the qualification already in his pocket, and lost the first place by falling against Independiente del Valle. The disastrous fall on Sunday against Estudiantes in Córdoba, which meant the elimination of the Copa Argentina, sealed Almirón's fate, who by these hours - according to sources close to the club and the coach himself - would have already been informed that he would not continue as head coach of the top team of Central at the end of the vacation. Almirón managed to get 62% of the points he put on the table in these six months as head coach of the Canalla, in the triple competition of Torneo Apertura, Copa Libertadores and Copa Argentina. He won the away classic, but still never pleased the fans. If Almirón's departure is confirmed, Belloso, his fellow board members and director Federico Lussenhoff must go out to find a new coach urgently to be in charge of the team at the start of work, with the Libertadores quarterfinals against the powerful Corinthians of Brazil as the main objective. Those matches will be in early August, first in Rosario and the rematch in San Pablo.
