Rosario Central defender Gastón Ávila was hospitalised after suffering nausea and dizziness in the dressing room following a kick to the face during his team's 5-0 win over Independiente Rivadavia. The incident, involving opposing forward Álex Arce, occurred at the end of the first half and resulted in the visiting player's red card after a VAR review by referee Facundo Tello.

Ávila, 25, played on until the final whistle at the Gigante de Arroyito, where his side secured a comprehensive victory. However, in the post-match dressing room, the player experienced hypotension, dizziness, nausea and a severe headache due to the left craniofacial trauma. Medical staff decided to transfer him to the emergency department of Sanatorio Mapaci.

Medical report and evaluation

Rosario Central communicated the situation via social media with an official medical bulletin. "After the match, the player, as a result of the left craniofacial trauma received, presented in the dressing room a picture of hypotension, dizziness, nausea and intense headache, which is why the decision was made to transfer him to the emergency room of Sanatorio Mapaci, where he underwent a clinical evaluation and imaging studies," the club stated. It added that they are awaiting his clinical evolution, with no further updates provided as of early Monday.

The defender had several scrapes and bruises on the left side of his face, visible marks from the opponent's boot. Despite the scare, the team closed the twelfth round of the Torneo Clausura 2026 with an attacking display that puts them first in Zone B with 22 points table.

Victory context

The 5-0 win, achieved with a man advantage from the 40th minute, extends the team's unbeaten run to five matches. Ángel Di María, the season's top scorer with 10 goals in 25 appearances, netted twice, including a penalty. Jaminton Campaz, Enzo Copetti and Marco Ruben completed the rout, with assists from players like Víctor Pizarro.

This victory strengthens Rosario Central's leadership, having scored 17 goals and conceded only 9 so far this season. The team maintains an impeccable form in its last five outings, with four wins and a draw. You can review the detail of recent results and the full squad on our stats and squad pages.

The next test for Miguel Ángel Russo's side is an away trip to face 10th-placed Atlético Tucumán on October 18. Ávila's potential absence presents a defensive issue at a key moment of the campaign. The defender will remain under medical observation in the coming hours as the team prepares for its journey north.
