With a three-game winning streak, equalled in two occasions, Rosario Central aims to improve its record in the season against Argentine rivals. In the group stage, it won against Platense 2-0 in Vicente López, but lost 2-0 in Itaquera in the last match. With 13 points, Rosario Central advanced as runner-up of its group, while Corinthians led its group with 11 points. The series will be played in two matches, with the second match scheduled for August 20 in São Paulo.
